How to Switch to Natural Living
There is so much overwhelming information when it comes to natural living. Today, I’m going to show you the easiest way to make the switch. When I first started my natural living journey, I would scour Pinterest for hours and learn nothing.
Meanwhile, I would stress about all the chemicals I was coming into contact with every day, and I still had no idea how to get rid of them! And that’s why Essential Moves to Wellness exists. I want to make your transition to natural living as easy as possible.

Start Natural Living with Small and Simple Changes
Since transitioning can be incredibly overwhelming, the ultimate key is to start with very small changes. The changes will add up over time, so don’t worry that you aren’t there yet. For me, I realized that there were toxic chemicals in my haircare products. So I started there.
I gradually started experimenting with shampoos and conditioners, and simple oil hair masks too. Now I have several companies that I trust with all natural haircare, like Just Nutritive. My hair started to grow rapidly, and it was so much thicker than before! It’s still pretty fine, which is why I decided to cut it.
But when I look back on pictures of my hair before I went natural, you can really see the difference. Some days, I can’t believe how thin and damaged my hair was! But I’m glad I got to live my dream of long hair before moving onto trendy short hair.
So start with what speaks to you or worries you the most. If it’s the cleaners in your house, start with those. Or if it’s your makeup, start with that.Choose a product that you use every day, and research natural alternatives.
You might be able to make it, or you can find chemical-free options at the store. I wouldn’t be able to navigate products at the store without my Think Dirty App.
Go at Your Own Pace
For over a year, I only focused on how to make my haircare routine as natural as possible. And boy, did I learn a lot! I learned that you should never wash your hair with baking soda, and easy ways to read ingredient lists.
I soon extended my new way of thinking out of my haircare and onto other things. My whole life suddenly turned into a mission to eliminate all the harsh chemicals I could find. Now I make almost everything, including household cleaners, lotion, even salad dressings!
I’ve still got a long ways to go, but I’m getting there. Yes, I’m not perfect with my natural lifestyle at all! Some days I just grab what I can find if I’m in a pinch.
So don’t get down on yourself if all the products you use aren’t completely natural. It’s a journey, not a one-and-done kind of thing.
Find Resources and Companies You Trust
So we all don’t have time to make absolutely everything, right? I’m seriously jealous if you do! That’s why you need to find companies that you trust because they actually care about your health and your new lifestyle.
It may not seem like it, but there are amazing companies and resources out there! And I’m going to tell you about one of my favorite resources that’s only available for one week a year!
Have you tried to read ingredient labels on your home and personal care products? It can be pretty intimidating! Sometimes it’s easier to make your own products, because they usually require just a few ingredients to get the job done.
But how do you make these products? There are so many different recipes out there, and there’s no way to know if they actually work unless you try them. Don’t get me wrong, there are some amazing resources that can help you along your natural living journey, but there’s a lot of fake science involved too.
Seriously. You can find all kinds of “natural cures for cancer” on Pinterest that have not been proven at all! So you need to find resources that not only care for you, but should be backed by science as well.
My Favorite Natural Living Resources
I’ve got a little list of resources and companies that really helped me when I first started my natural living journey. Some of them are blogs, and others are sites completely dedicated to people like us.
Go through this list and find your favorites! And if you ever have any questions, you can always reach out to me or the resources themselves.
This was the very first place that exposed me to natural living! I did a quick search on Pinterest one night to see how I could grow out my hair faster, and I came across this article.
I started seeing it everywhere on Pinterest soon after that, and I quickly fell down the rabbit hole of this girl’s blog. Alex gave me the best education on chemical-free living I could find, and she backs everything up with science and actual research!
Plus, Alex has a very strict standard for what she does and doesn’t use, so you know that you’re getting the most natural advice out there. Her passion is what put me here writing this article for you. So if you’re going to check anything out in this post, you need to look at her blog.
If you’ve been following Essential Moves to Wellness for a while, you know how much I love this app. I use it every time I need a new natural product because it takes the guesswork out for me. Reading ingredient lists can be pretty tricky, but Think Dirty does all the dirty work for me!
You can read my Think Dirty App Review for the complete run-down, but I’ll give you the basics here. Think Dirty is a completely free app that gives you a database of clean and not-so-clean products. Their products range from laundry to beauty to hair, and everything in between!
Each product is rated on a scale of 0-10, with one being 0 being the safest and 10 being the most dangerous. This rating is given based on the product’s ingredient list.
And there’s a nice little explanation on each ingredient’s purpose and toxicity right there in the description! What’s super nice is you can scan products with the app’s barcode scanner so you can know the rating right away instead of searching for it.
Now I only take about 5 minutes to pick a new product at the store, instead of doing a hasty Google search and giving up!
You simply can’t switch to a natural lifestyle without using essential oils! I try to bring the best of the best to you, and I truly believe that Rocky Mountain Oils is one of the best essential oil companies out there for two reasons.
They are one of the most transparent companies I’ve come across when it comes to their ingredients, and their prices are super affordable!
I’ve got a full review of Rocky Mountain Oils here for you to read. They offer everything from carrier oils, blends, roll-ons, and singles. My husband gives me a hard time on how much I use essential oils, but hey, they get the job done. They’re a lot simpler to use than you think, but there are some precautions you should take with essential oils.
They help with killing germs, enhancing your mood, and hair and skincare. Most, if not all, of my DIY’s have some kind of essential oil in them, and that’s what makes them great!
This company is close to my heart, because it’s the first all natural company that I ever found when I first started my journey.
I tried for months and months to make my own shampoo and use oils as a conditioner, but it just wasn’t working for me. The occasional baking soda rinse didn’t clean my hair much, and I found out that it’s not the best thing for your hair at all.
So I turned to Pinterest once again, and Just Nutritive (formerly known as Just Natural) was absolutely everywhere on there! They have just about everything for hair and skincare, which was a blessing for me.
Their site is organized by what type of hair you have, or the kind of ailment you’re looking to help. You can check out my review of their hair care line here. For me, I have very oily hair with dry ends, so I loved their Oily Hair Shampoo.
They have skincare for just about everyone too! I used their Clear Body Soap when I had terrible body acne in college. It cleared up considerably after only a few washes!
Just Nutritive also educates their buyers on what goes into their products, and you can find little blurbs on why they decided to include every ingredient. So if you’re looking to try a natural product for the first time, Just Nutritive is a great option.
Take the Journey and Find Your Favorite Natural Living Resources!
The resources I mentioned above are some of my personal favorites, but there’s so much more! My goal here at Essential Moves to Wellness is to educate you on actionable steps toward a healthier life, so pick and choose what works for you. Just because it works for me, doesn’t mean it has to work for you.
And I never want you to feel guilty for not being “natural enough.” That’s such a relative definition. You could be buying everything that’s not considered natural but decide to make your own lotion, and that’s great! I applaud you!
Or you could decide to DIY absolutely everything, and that’s great too! Seriously, hats off to that, because I’m nowhere near that. So go and make your own unique natural lifestyle! I’ll be here cheering you on.
