Greek Yogurt Ranch
I came up with this recipe when I was in a pinch with homemade salad dressings. I didn’t have time to go to the store, and I hate store-bought ranch anyways. A good ranch dressing is one of my favorites, so I made this recipe with ingredients I already had in my kitchen. Lo and behold, it tasted amazing! Just like regular ranch, but way better!
This ranch dressing would also be an amazing dip for vegetables, so don’t just stop with salads with this stuff! Plus, greek yogurt is an amazing replacement for anything creamy in most recipes. And the health benefits are much better! It’s a probiotic, full of protein, and has way less fat than traditional ranch.
Here are some of the ingredients you’ll need that you can get on Amazon for your convenience:
- 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2-1 teaspoon dried dill, to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- salt, to taste
- 2 tablespoons or so of water to thin the yogurt
- *optional* honey to taste
Simply combine all ingredients to your liking! This dressing will be a game-changer on your salads. You will certainly please any houseguests with this as a dip as well. Don’t forget to have some amazing homemade guacamole with your party snacks too!
Sweet and Sour Honey Mustard
If you hate sour foods, especially mustard, please hear me out! I hate mustard with a passion, but I was floored when I tried this. It’s the perfect mix of sweet and sour that adds great variety to my salads. I love to use this out of all my homemade salad dressings on a salad that might need some extra flavor.
Or if I’m having bad sugar cravings, this dressing makes them disappear fast! I use this dressing primarily on my superfood salad recipe that makes it a truly unique meal. The crunchiness combined with the sweet and salty flavor is one of the few salad combinations that I don’t get tired of.
Here are all of my favorite ingredients you can find on Amazon for your convenience:
- 2 tablespoons sunflower oil, or other nut oil
- 1 tablespoon raw unfiltered honey
- 1 teaspoon dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- salt and pepper to taste
Just combine all ingredients and drizzle it over that salad you’ve been dreading! The sunflower oil has good healthy fats that won’t overpower the taste of the honey and mustard. For this reason, I don’t recommend using coconut oil for this recipe. It will also solidify at room temperature, and we don’t want a solid homemade salad dressing!
Basic Balsamic Vinaigrette
I love to whip up this dressing when I don’t feel like measuring a bunch of spices. Plus, it makes me feel fancy! My homemade salad dressings involve a lot of measurements, but this one has no official measurements at all! It’s just a one part oil to two part vinegar recipe, plus some optional spices to taste.
Of course, I also have all of my favorite versions of each ingredient listed below for you to shop!
- 1 part olive oil
- 2 parts balsamic vinegar (or white wine vinegar, apple cider vinegar, or rice vinegar)
- *optional* 1 teaspoon or so of minced garlic, minced onion, or red pepper flakes
Combine all desired ingredients and shake to fully combine! Some recipes recommend you put it in a blender, but that’s a bit too much in my opinion. Unless you want your chunky spices to blend easily into the dressing.
This dressing brings any salad up a notch in class, plus it tastes good on everything! My personal favorite combination is to put some minced garlic in it to add some extra flavor. I don’t bother blending unless I’m serving it to someone else.
Final Thoughts on Healthy Homemade Salad Dressings
People who can eat the same salad every day must have some kind of super power. Trust me, I’ve been there. The people who love to eat salads every day used to truly baffle me. Until I realized that you just need some variety and tastes that you actually like. I’m at a point now that I can even eat the same salad every day if I want to!
So try these homemade salad dressings with endless combinations! I love to put the ranch on my cob salads, and the honey mustard on anything that seems a bit bland. It all just depends on your individual tastes. You might find that you like one more than the other, or you might like a recipe with more or less of the recommended spices.
And since most of these ingredients can already be found in your kitchen, you’ll be able to make a grade-A salad in no time! I love being able to whip up some ranch on the fly and have it taste so much better than regular store-bought ranch. And it’s so much healthier!
Salad dressings to me are not worth buying at the store, because it’s usually cheaper to make it yourself. And who knows what mystery ingredients are lurking in there? You’ll be better off with a healthier salad dressing, and it will make a much healthier salad!
