Did you know that making your own bar soap is easier than you think? This oatmeal soap recipe can be made in just a couple of hours, and it makes a fantastic gift!

Plus, the lavender and oats will make your skin feel soft and supple after just one use. If you have inflamed, dry, or flaky skin, this is a must for wintertime. But why oats?

What Do Oats Do in Soap?

Whole oats have natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which is why they are often used in soaps and other skin care products. They can even be used as an exfoliant!

Oats have a natural graininess that helps to exfoliate skin. They are also known to be one of the most gentle and non-irritating ingredients for people with sensitive skin.

This is why people with sensitive skin love to use oats in their skincare products. Oats are not only one of the most gentle and non-irritating natural ingredients, but they also happen to be an excellent source of fiber.

Yes, you can get benefits from oat’s fiber both inside and out! They provide your body with essential nutrients like protein and vitamin B1 that can do great things for skin health and elasticity.

I know the idea of putting breakfast food on your skin sounds crazy, but it really works! If you’re looking for a soap that will cleanse your skin without stripping it of its natural oils, oatmeal is the perfect choice.

This oatmeal soap recipe for eczema will do wonders for your skin. While you’re going about your regular business of cleaning your skin, you’ll get rid of any dead skin particles while leaving all the nasty stuff behind.

Oatmeal Lavender Soap Benefits

Now you may be wondering what the point of adding lavender buds to this soap recipe could be. This herb is amazing for more than just its soothing aromatherapy benefits!

This lavender oatmeal soap will clean and moisturize skin and leave it feeling happy and healthy. It’s especially helpful for those with eczema and dry, flaky skin.

With the exfoliation power of the oats and the soothing, moisturizing benefits of the lavender buds and essential oil, the health of your skin will improve dramatically. I’ve had several people with sensitive, dry skin say that this is the only soap they can actually use.

Did you know that lavender essential oil reduces inflammation and redness of the skin? It’s actually one of the main ingredients I talk about in my natural sunburn remedy post.

The cooling sensation that comes from lavender helps to soothe skin and calm any redness. Which makes it a great option for those who have sensitized skin and need to heal!

And just so you know, the lavender essential oil I like to get is from REVIVE Essential Oils. You can check out my full thoughts on the company, and you can get 10% off your first order with the code ESSENTIAL10 🙂

Lavender and oats within this healing soap recipe even helps to heal acne, rashes, and other inflamed conditions on your skin. It’s basically the “calm” button for your skin to hit whenever there’s a problem with inflammation.

This lavender oatmeal soap recipe not only fights common skin ailments, but keeps it looking calm and smooth 24/7. The ingredients promote a balanced pH level in your skin, which means your skin will be strong, clear, and able to handle stress much better than before.

Why You Should Use a Non Toxic Soap Base

When selecting a soap base for your oatmeal lavender soap recipe, make sure to pick one that is gentle and made with natural ingredients. This will ensure that your skin will not be further irritated by the harsh chemicals found in commercial soap products.

I’ve used a shea butter soap base in the past with great results! It lathers nicely and leaves my skin feeling clean and moisturized. You could totally use this as a shea butter oatmeal soap recipe, if you don’t like the idea of using a goat’s milk soap base.

Commercial soap bases are often made with harsh chemicals that can dry out your skin. This oatmeal lavender soap recipe uses a non-toxic soap base that is gentle and great for all skin types.

I don’t recommend you use a soap base that has any sulfates or added ingredients like fragrance. You can read more on why I don’t like these ingredients, but I would especially steer clear of sulfates if your skin is very sensitive.

Sulfates are known to cause skin irritation which can lead to itching, burning, dryness, redness, and other similar symptoms that will eventually sensitize your skin and leave it feeling worse than ever.

Sulfates are not meant to be on human skin, yet they are in just about anything that makes bubbles. That includes shampoo and body wash just to name a couple.

Instead, you can find soap bases that are free of toxic chemicals pretty easily online. I noticed that soap bases made from goat’s milk are very common for sensitive skin, but why is that?

Goat milk soap is made with saponified goat milk, which helps to cleanse and moisturize skin. Goats milk is also rich in minerals, vitamins, and proteins, which makes it a great choice for those with dry or sensitive skin.

Unlike many commercial soap bases, goat milk soap does not contain any harsh chemicals or detergents that can lead to even more skin problems. So even if you don’t have sensitive skin, I still highly recommend you give it a try!

Plus, it’s easy to find! I got my soap base from Amazon. But you won’t find too many nontoxic soap bases at stores like Hobby Lobby, unfortunately.

How to Use This as a Honey Oatmeal Soap Recipe

If you’re looking for a honey oatmeal soap recipe, you can definitely give this recipe a tweak! You can forego the lavender altogether and use honey, if you so desire.

Honey is a natural humectant, which means it helps to draw in and retain moisture. This makes it the perfect ingredient to add to any soap recipe, but especially one that’s meant for dry or sensitive skin.

Not everyone is a fan of lavender. And hey, I get it. I actually know people who get angry at the smell instead of being relaxed!

Thanks to the lack of essential oil safety and education, those with extra sensitive skin should avoid direct contact with essential oils altogether. I can’t tell you how many horror stories I’ve found of people becoming sensitized to essential oils and can’t go near them!

Just omit the lavender buds and lavender essential oil for one tablespoon of honey. You can also add in about 20 drops of vanilla essential oil to replace the lavender essential oil for an added flare.

How Do You Make Homemade Oatmeal Soap?

First, you want to gather your ingredients. This includes: A non-toxic soap base or goats milk soap base, lavender buds, whole oats, and lavender essential oil. This is a melt and pour oatmeal soap recipe, which makes it super easy to do.

lavender oatmeal soap ingredients

Most soap bases come in a big block, so chop your block into little squares so you can measure it out properly. Place your squares in a dish that’s microwave safe.

Microwave your soap base on 15-second intervals, checking to make sure that everything is melting and nothing is overheating and/or exploding. You don’t want to clean that up in your microwave!

Once the base is all melted down, mix in your oats, lavender buds, and lavender essential oil. There’s no need to chop or cook your oats. You want them intact for the best results on your skin!

The same goes for the lavender buds. Just make sure everything is mixed to the best of your ability and pour into your designated soap molds.

Then let the soap harden over the course of a few hours to overnight, pop them out, and enjoy! You should be able to use your new oatmeal lavender soap immediately after it cools.

Notes

You must be very quick when mixing your soap! The base tends to cool and harden very quickly.
