It can be overwhelming. That’s why I’m sharing my favorite concealers!  These concealers not only are good for your skin, but they also outperform a lot of the more traditional concealers.

What is Concealer?

A concealer is a cosmetic that is used to hide skin imperfections. It’s like a foundation, but usually thicker.

It works by covering the not-so-pretty area with a formula that matches your skin tone and then blending it into the surrounding area.  This hides the imperfection and evens out the skin tone.

Concealers are used to hide dark circles, age spots, acne, scars, and any other discoloration.

They can also be used to:

  • brighten tired eyes
  • highlight and enhance facial features
  • define eyebrows and lips
  • prepare eyelids for eyeshadow

Concealers are meant to be used on specific areas of the face, not cover the entire face like a foundation would.  However, some of the concealers listed below can double as a foundation.

Concealers are great for creating the appearance of flawless skin. The good ones even make you look radiant!

I personally have had dark under eyes for as long as I can remember, which has been an insecurity of mine. Because of this, concealer under my eyes is a must-do for my everyday makeup looks! And believe me, I’ve tried a lot.

Harmful Ingredients to Watch Out For in Concealers

Concealers are a must-have when it comes to your beauty routine, but not all concealers are created equal.

They are one of the first products you put on your skin.  Almost every other beauty product goes on after the concealer. This means the concealer will be in direct contact with your skin.  So, you want one that is going to be good for you!

But a lot of traditional concealers have toxic ingredients in them. A few things to watch out for include:

  • Polyethylene Glycols (PEG’s) – petroleum-based compounds used to thicken or soften cosmetics.  You should avoid PEG’s because they may be contaminated with carcinogens.  Look for the word “PEG” on the label, followed by a number.  The lower the number, the easier the PEG is absorbed into the skin.
  • Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) – substances used to smooth and brighten the skin, but they are also linked to cancer.  They can wreak havoc on the immune system, create hormonal imbalances, and can harm fetuses.  You can find them listed on the label as “flouro”.
  • Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) and butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) –synthetic antioxidants used for preserving cosmetics.  They are also linked to cancer, reproductive issues, and skin allergies.
  • Phthalates –chemicals that are used to make plastics more flexible, but they can also be used as a binding agent.  They have been linked to endocrine disruption, breast cancer, reproductive issues, and developmental toxicity.  They show up on labels as “phthalate”, “DEP”, “DBP”, “DEHP”, and even “fragrance”.
  • Parabens –used to prevent bacteria from growing in cosmetics.  It’s a great idea, but they can actually mimic the estrogen in the body, causing hormonal imbalances, reproductive issues, and even breast cancer.  They show up as “methylparaben”, “propylparaben”, “isopropylparaben”, and “isobutylparaben”.
  • Sodium Laureth Sulfate –helps skin absorb the concealer, but can be contaminated with cancer-causing ingredients.  It also causes skin irritation, canker sores, eye damage, and acne.  It can show up as “sulfate” or “polyethylene glycol” on the label.

Try to avoid concealers that have the word “fragrance” listed as well. This is a loophole that companies can use to keep the ingredients behind the product’s scent a trade secret

How Do You Apply a Natural Concealer?

If you are applying organic concealer around the eyes, the traditional way is to start by applying several dots under the eyes, close to the lashes.  Add a dot to the inside corner of the eye as well. I’ll also bring the concealer down my face in a triangle shape.

Use a small brush to “tap” in the concealer, blending well. Do the same for other areas of your face, such as the chin, and around your nose and mouth.

Add additional layers if needed. Finally, set your concealer by applying a fine, loose powder over your face.

The video below outlines everything perfectly! I used to do the triangle technique, but the new technique made my dark under eyes vanish like never before! Totally worth the watch.

Hynt Beauty Duet Perfecting Concealer

This is a full-coverage, color-correcting organic concealer that you can also use as a spot treatment, cream foundation, or eye shadow primer.

Hynt Beauty’s concealer is my personal favorite!  The lightweight, creamy formula provides beautiful coverage that lasts for hours, without getting cakey.  Plus, they offer samples, so that you can find the perfect match without wasting oodles of dollars!

I was seriously floored when I tried it out for the first time. It was the first natural concealer that had the same performance as a conventional one. My faith in clean beauty skyrocketed that day haha.

Silk Naturals HD Cream Concealer

If you suffer from skin irritation, blotchiness, or acne, Silk Naturals concealer might be a great choice for you.  It is slightly yellow-tinted, to balance out the redness in your skin.

The colors tend to be a little lighter, so choose a color that is a tish darker than you would normally buy.  If you can’t decide, you can grab some samples as well.

Silk Naturals is the first organic concealer I ever tried! It worked pretty well, but it wasn’t my absolute favorite. Just make sure that your skin is prepped and smooth before application!

Cost:  $.99 for 3 ml.

Jane Iredale Active Light Under-Eye Concealer

Jane Iredale’s concealer provides sheer to medium coverage. With cucumber and white tree extract, their nourishing antioxidant formula helps to brighten tired eyes, lessen the appearance of dark circles, and reduce puffiness.

I like this eye concealer because it easily covers dark circles. But I think that application is key here! This was the first high-end concealer I ever tried, and I had a store associate put it on me to help me find the right shade at a local clean beauty boutique.

The result was amazing! My dark under eyes were completely gone and I could really tell the difference because she didn’t do the other eye for comparison. But I remember that I couldn’t apply it that well myself when I got home.

That’s why I’m telling you to watch the video above to learn how to apply concealer properly! It thoroughly rocked my world.

Cost:  $32 for 2.07 ml

100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Concealer

100% Pure Fruit pigmented concealer provides full coverage that lasts all day.  Made from so many wonderful natural and organic ingredients that it’s hard to list them all, it goes on smooth and leaves a dewy finish.

But what I like is that it is water, sweat, and oil-resistant. It’s also good to keep in mind that it comes in a compact instead of the usual applicator. So if you don’t like applying makeup with your fingers, this might not be for you.

Cost:  $28 for 3 ml.

R.M.S. covers up all kinds of impurities while still looking invisible, all day long! It’s one of the top sellers for the best natural concealer, and for good reason! I find it blends flawlessly into my skin, even when I’m too lazy to prep it first.

Alima Pure Cream Concealer

Alima Pure offers fresh, blendable coverage that melts right into your skin.  Made from olive oil, avocado oil, shea butter, and Vitamin E, it nourishes your skin while camouflaging discolorations.

It does run a bit lighter though, so choose a shade that is a little darker than your skin tone. I’m not complaining, but definitely keep it in mind.

One of my favorite things about this concealer is it’s sustainable! You start by buying the compact and you can get refills when you run out.

Cost:  $32 for 2.5 ml

Saie Hydrabeam concealer is an ultra-hydrating liquid concealer that provides light coverage.  It brightens and smooths skin to create a radiant finish. I really like it for days when I just want something simple to brighten up my face.

What I like about Saie Hydrabam is that it really brightens under the eye.  If you don’t need a lot of coverage, this a great concealer. It keeps everything looking natural yet awake.

And the best part? You can get it at Sephora! I love finding clean beauty in person 🙂

Juice Beauty Concealer is a creamy formula made from so many wonderful nourishing plant oils organic ingredients, it easily locks in moisture and creates naturally radiant skin. It covers well and blends easily.

Juice Beauty is perfect for contouring, but also makes a great base for eye shadow. Creamier concealers do tend to cake easier if you have oily skin like me, so make sure that you prep your skin accordingly and wash/exfoliate!

The Best Natural Concealer for Sensitive Skin

If you are looking for a natural concealer that’s easy on sensitive skin, Fitglow Beauty Conceal + is my number one recommendation.  It’s full of nourishing organic ingredients, such as beeswax, grape seed oil, jojoba seed oil, carnauba wax, caster seed oil, licorice root, radish root, carnauba wax, organic green tea, and Vitamin K.

The Best Natural Concealer for Dry Skin

100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Concealer gets my vote for the best organic concealer for dry skin.

It is enriched with shea butter, cocoa butter, rosehip seed oil, lavender, goldenseal, chamomile, green coffee, shea butter, candelilla wax, rice powder, peach, carrot, apricot, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, cocoa butter, rosemary leaf extract, oregano leaf, thyme, and grapefruit seed.  Phew!

The Best Natural Concealer for Dark Spots

Ilia True Skin Serum Concealer has the best coverage for dark circles.  It blends seamlessly, giving your skin a brighter, smoother complexion.

It works even better if you prep your skin with True Skin Serum Foundation first, and then set it with a finishing powder afterward. It’s the perfect combo for flawless skin!

The Best Natural Concealer for Acne

Fitglow’s concealer is the best natural concealer for acne.  It diminishes the look of blemishes and improves skin structure.  It brightens and evens out the complexion as well.

I certainly wish I had this concealer when my skin was at its worst during my teen years! I didn’t discover clean beauty until I was 18.

The Best Concealer for Daily Use

R.M.S. Beauty “Un” Cover-Up is the best natural concealer for daily use. You can wear it alone, without foundation, if you are having an “un” makeup day.  It has a 12-hour wear but still leaves you feeling comfortable in your skin.

It really is the best of both worlds! Sometimes I miss wearing it when I have a different concealer in my makeup bag.

Final Thoughts on Natural Concealers

Every one of these concealers is a great choice!  You really can’t go wrong. They help uneven skin tone and cover your imperfections, including dark circles and blemishes.

R.M.S. Beauty, Ilia True Skin, and Fitglow are overall just great concealers. Hynt Beauty and Fitglow are both good for acne-prone skin, and Ilia True Skin Serum is good for dark spots.

100% Pure Fruit is good for dry skin, and Fitglow or W3II People are perfect for sensitive skin.

But they are all the best natural concealers!  Give one a try and let me know what you think of it in the comments below!
