Do you suffer from dry hair that needs a facelift? The Rahua Hydration Shampoo and Conditioner will fix you up in no time!
I’ve noticed a difference with my very fine hair that seems to dry out at the drop of a hat. Even if your hair isn’t super dry, this is a great luxury hair care item. But it certainly has its drawbacks.
Who is Rahua?
Rahua (pronounced raw-wah) is a high-end hair care company started by Fabian Lliguin, a renowned hair stylist. When he was on a trip to the Amazon rain forest to educate its people on land rights, he was awestruck by the long, healthy hair of the native women.
When asked what their secret was, the natives said they used Rahua oil to keep their hair and skin looking and feeling beautiful. They gifted him a small bottle to take home, and Lliquin used it on a client with fried hair that was beyond repair.
Within 10 minutes, the client’s hair did a complete 180! Her hair looked healthy, strong, and had amazing body. This prompted Lliquin to create a business based on this miracle oil, without disturbing the environment the Amazonian natives love so much.
A Focus on Sustainability
One thing that I appreciate about Rahua is that they take sustainability very seriously. As soon as I heard that indigenous people were involved in the company’s genesis, I immediately became concerned for the natives.
But you can see a whole page on Rahua’s website dedicated to how they are “leaving no trace” in the rainforest. The company’s founders work directly with the natives to ensure that they keep their promise of never harvesting non-regenerative ingredients.
All of Rahua’s plastic bottles are recyclable, the company’s footprint is carbon-neutral, and they even have a program called the Pink Flamingo Project that is devoted to regular ocean cleanup efforts.
Where’s the Proof?
One interesting thing about Rahua’s conservation efforts is that they don’t use any “mainstream” certifications to prove it. You would think that they would at least be Fair Trade Certified, right? This screams everything that Rahua stands for!
Getting the Fair Trade certification means that the product was ethically produced with well-treated workers. You can learn more about what this means along with many other certifications in my clean beauty eBook!
Instead, Rahua came up with their own certification called Symbiotic. It’s designed specifically to help indigenous people create a sustainable economy while preserving the precious rainforests.

I love that the founders made their own certification just for their specific situation. But at the same time, using more recognizable certifications could do them a world of good.
Certifications like Fair Trade already have a good trust factor. People don’t know what the Symbiotic certification is, which leaves buyers with more questions than answers.
It takes a lot to build trust with a certification, and I’m not sure how trustworthy the Symbiotic certification actually is. I’m sure it’s fine, but where’s the proof?
I tried looking up the process and/or publicity for this certification, but all I could find was this article announcing its PR debut. Again, I’m not sure what info there is to back this up, which makes me suspicious. But Rahua has a lot riding on their reputation if this isn’t true.
Is Rahua Hydration Shampoo Sulfate-Free?
Absolutely! It’s also free of many other toxic ingredients that can cause hair and scalp damage. One of Rahua’s biggest selling points is that they have some of the purest ingredients in the industry.
You certainly get what you pay for with Rahua! Not only are the ingredients harvested from virgin rainforests, but they are harvested using indigenous practices and sold to sustain their way of life.
Now that we’ve been through how Rahua works and what they stand for, let’s get into the nitty gritty! I’ve got all the stuff you want to know about what makes Rahua shampoo great. And I’m not holding anything back.
Rahua Hydration Shampoo Review
One of the first things you might notice about this shampoo, is its price. I personally have never spent this much money on hair care! But you certainly get what you pay for.
My hair has never felt this strong, clean, and soft. I certainly agree that the ingredients in Rahua shampoo are top-notch. And the fact that each purchase goes directly to helping indigenous people helps justify the price.
One of the first things I noticed about this shampoo was the smell. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it at first. Maybe strawberry? Then I realized that the first ingredients on its list are passion fruit and mango, so I wasn’t that far off in terms of fruit-like smells.

The smell reminds me of the few luxury hair care shampoos I tried before I switched to clean beauty. I enjoyed it at first, but now I find it a bit overpowering. Just something to keep in mind if you’re sensitive to scent.
The Hydration shampoo leaves a slight residue behind on my hair, but it’s a good residue. Almost like my hair just got a lovely leave-in treatment. And it translates into my style when my hair dries!
As someone with extremely fine hair, the slightest bit of too much moisture makes it look greasy and weighed down. Trying “hydration” style hair care usually makes me nervous, but I was pleasantly surprised! My hair feels clean and moisturized without being heavy or stripped.
Rahua Hydration Shampoo Ingredients
The ingredients of this shampoo are truly the stars of the show in Rahua hair care. You can find several Amazonian plants, including the legendary Rahua oil. Although I’d like to note that it’s not the first ingredient on the list.
Usually, the first ingredients have the highest volume of the product. I found it interesting that Rahua was in the middle of the list, while passion fruit and mango were at the top. It definitely explains the scent!
I’m glad that Rahua oil isn’t at the bottom. That means you can only find it in trace amounts within the product. You’ll also find that all ingredients are plant-based and follow the model of only regenerative farming practices that leave the rainforest ultimately unscathed. Which is how it should be for everything!

Rahua Hydration Conditioner Review
I was equally impressed with the conditioner compared to the shampoo. It has that same fruity scent, although I didn’t find it as overpowering as the shampoo, which I was very thankful for.
A little bit of this luxury conditioner goes a very long way, so I know that this stuff will last me a very long time. It makes my hair feel so soft and strong as well!

Like I said, using “hydrating” or “moisturizing” styled hair products makes me nervous because they can over-moisturize my fine hair and make it feel heavy. This can especially be the case with conditioner, but this didn’t happen at all!
My hair felt the perfect level of cleanliness and moisture, and it stayed that way for a few days in-between washes. This rarely happens for me! Even now as I write this, my hair feels perfectly moisturized and healthy. Maybe even a bit thicker than usual.
Where to Buy Rahua Hydration Shampoo and Conditioner
You can find Rahua both online and in-person. My favorite place to shop for clean beauty product is The Detox Market. They carry Rahua, along with a collection of nontoxic brands that have passed rigorous testing and research to ensure the highest quality.
I have a full review of The Detox Market if you want to learn more! Otherwise, there are a couple of in-person options for you to find Rahua, and one of them might surprise you.
You can find Rahua products at Walmart! I can’t guarantee that they’re in your individual store, but a quick online search confirmed that you can indeed find Rahua Hydration Shampoo at Walmart.
Another place you can find the Hydration Shampoo is at Sephora. It should be in the hair care section along all the other “luxury” brand shampoos. Sephora has a growing collection of clean beauty brands, which I love to see!
Are Rahua Samples Available?
If you want to try before you buy, you can get a Rahua Hydration shampoo sample at most places online. It’s technically not a traditional sample, but you can get a single ounce travel size for about $9.

I highly recommend this if the price point of Rahua is too much. This way, you’ll be able to tell if their products truly work for you without blowing a ton of money.
Final Thoughts: Is Rahua Worth the Money?
Yes and no. For me, I wasn’t too impressed with the shampoo, because I’ve had cheaper shampoos like Innersense do the exact same thing for my hair at a fraction of the price.
The conditioner, on the other hand, I would totally buy again! The smell isn’t overpowering, a little goes a long way, and my hair has never felt so clean and moisturized at once. Not to mention strong!
I’ve heard mixed reviews on Rahua, so what works for me might not work for you. If you’re still on the fence, I highly recommend you get a travel size first and see if your hair likes it. I can guarantee that your hair will thank you for all that plant-based goodness!
