The Clean Beauty Practices of Innersense that I Love
They’re one of the best hair care brands I’ve come across! Innersense was founded in 2005 by a duo of beauty professionals who wanted to bring clean yet effective products onto the market.
One of the main focuses of Innersense is intentional beauty, as you’ll notice by the names of all their products, like I Create Hold. The belief of affirmations and self-care are at the core of Innersense and how they work.
It says right on their website that they don’t add any silicones, parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances or “questionable ingredients” to their products.
While “questionable ingredients” is a bit of a subjective term thanks to greenwashing practices, I can appreciate their commitment to everything else.
Innersense curly hair products are also some of the best clean options for curly hair girls on the market! While Innersense makes hair care products for all types, they’ve definitely formed a cult following in the curly hair community.
Is Innersense Actually Organic?
Despite the full name being Innersense Organic Beauty, their products are not certified organic.
However, some of their ingredients are certified organic.
Innersense is a certified B Corporation, as well as Leaping Bunny Certified and Recyclable. If you want to know more about what these certifications mean, I go in-depth on this topic in my clean beauty crash course eBook.
Even without the organic seal, Innersense still has an impressive list of certifications that show third-party companies trust their practices. And that’s a huge win in my book!

My Favorite Products | Innersense Review
While I obviously haven’t tried all of Innersense’s products, I’ve tried most of their best-sellers and love them! I have more in-depth thoughts on each product I’ve personally tried below.
You might notice that my links to Innersense products go to The Detox Market, an online marketplace for clean beauty.
I love The Detox Market because it makes buying and finding clean beauty products so much easier! You can check out my review of The Detox Market to learn more about how they curate clean beauty products.
And I may not be a member of the curly hair community, but I am a member of the fine hair community (Can I get a sound off in the comments?!). So please enjoy this Innersense review from someone with very fine, thin hair.
Pure Harmony Hair Bath Review
This is by far one of my favorite shampoos I’ve ever tried, and it’s one of the best Innersense shampoos too! It leaves my hair feeling so soft and manageable the moment I rinse it out in the shower.
It even made the list in my top non-toxic shampoo post.
Seriously though, my hair feels like it just came back to life when I first rinse this shampoo out. It’s definitely leaving behind a residue, but it’s a residue that I actually like.
The purpose of this shampoo is to build body in fine to medium hair and it certainly delivers.
The Pure Harmony Hair Bath has a very distinct orange candy smell to it. I thought it smelled fake at first, but it’s grown on me. It’s kind of like an orange creamsicle that isn’t too obnoxious.
Depending on whether I use the True Enlightenment Scalp Scrub, I’ll double-wash my hair to really make sure everything is clean. Even with the occasional double wash from this shampoo, it’s lasted me forever!
That’s a general theme I’ve noticed with all Innersense beauty products. They last much longer than you think! Which totally helps justify the price.

I Create Lift Volumizing Foam Review
I think the last time I ever had volumizing foam or mousse was at my wedding? Either way, I was really stepping out of my comfort zone by getting the I Create Lift Volumizing Foam.
As a post-quarantine celebration, I decided to get curtain bangs and I absolutely loved them! But with bangs come the challenge of styling them, so I had to give clean styling products a try for the first time ever.
When I got my bangs cut and styled, my hairstylist used a traditional mousse that kept my new bangs perky and in place for several days. And I’m happy to report that I Create Lift Volumizing Foam did just as well!
It took a little bit of trial and error with teaching myself how to style bangs for the first time, but once I found a system it was a no-brainer. I’ve found that the foam works better if I apply it to dry hair and hit it with a blow dryer.
But don’t worry, this volumizing foam also works great with wet hair! I only use this on the rest of my head if my hair is wet. Otherwise, it makes my roots feel dirty.
I apply it to the crown of my head with damp hair to give my best attempt at a blow-out. My hair always looks more voluminous than ever, and had perfect texture!

I Create Finish Hairspray Review
This was the first natural hairspray I ever tried, and I love it so much. You can find it along with a few more of my favorite natural hairsprays that work just as well as their traditional, toxic counterparts.
I Create Finish gets its power from organic honey to hold everything in place, while ingredients like aloe and rice water keep your strands soft and manageable.
My hair feels so soft and touchable after I spray it! I Create Finish also keeps my curls looking great on the rare occasion that I wear them.
On a regular day, I’ll use I Create Finish on the top of my head near my hairline to keep any flyaways at bay if I have it pulled back. Or if I’ve styled my curtain bangs, I’ll give them a spray and they stay put all day long!

True Enlightenment Scalp Scrub Review
One of my favorite Innersense hair treatments is this lovely scalp scrub! The True Enlightenment Scalp Scrub is made of Hawaiian red salt, clay, minerals, and essential oils like peppermint and tea tree.
The point of this scalp scrub is to calm inflammation, act as a pre-wash treatment, and stimulate blood flow for better hair growth. And a little bit of this stuff goes a very long way!
I only use this scalp treatment about once a week, and my hair always feels extra soft and clean without being stripped! In fact, I think this has contributed to some new hair growth and I absolutely love it.
If you don’t smell the peppermint when you first open this stuff, I would be genuinely concerned.
It’s all I smell when I use this on my scalp and I’m not complaining! But if you are sensitive to strong smells or essential oils, this may not be your cup of tea.
Also, make sure that you keep this stuff only on your scalp as much as possible.
When I went to rinse this off, I let it drip down my face and the peppermint oil made my skin feel tingly and cool. I was a bit concerned at first, but the sensation went away after a few minutes.

Hair Love Prep Spray Review
There aren’t very many natural heat protectants out there, but this is one of the few I recommend! The Hair Love Prep Spray works great as a texture-tamer, or as a protectant from heat and UV exposure.
Rice protein and vitamin B help to plump up the hair shaft so your hair looks thicker and has more body, while other ingredients like angelica root keep everything protected.
I’ve seen people use it to keep a certain texture throughout the day, or as a traditional heat protectant.
The Hair Love Prep Spray applies as a light foamy texture that you can work through wet hair. I prefer to spray it on my fingers and work it through sections of my hair after a shower.
It does have a slight smell, but it isn’t overpowering at all. It also dissipates very quickly.
Innersense cautions people to only use this heat protectant on wet hair and then dry and style as usual, but I’ve seen people use it on dry hair as well.
I personally have used it on dry hair with no issues. I just have to make sure that I brush it through and give it ample time to dry and soak into my hair.
Heat protectants may seem like a pointless step, but I promise that it’s necessary!
I put this heat protectant on my hair even when I’m not styling it and my hair is noticeably more manageable and has more body. Not to mention it helps keep my style in place all day long!

Inner Peace Whipped Cream Texturizer Review
This is one of my favorite natural styling creams! The Inner Peace Whipped Cream Texturizer blew all of my expectations out of the water with how easy and effective it works on my whole family’s hair.
I was scared of this stuff at first, because I thought it would weigh down my hair or ruin whatever curls I had put in it. But I was pleasantly surprised!
If I curl my hair, I take a small amount (like a pea-sized amount) and spread it between my fingertips. Then I just run it through freshly cooled curls as I break them up and go!
This texturizing cream holds my curls in place with a good amount of texture that still leaves my hair feeling soft and manageable. I was worried it would make my hair feel piece-y and weighed down, but if left my curls looking defined and natural.
And what’s more, my husband loves it too! I’ve been looking for a natural hair gel for him for some time, and he used this in a pinch and fell in love with it. It’s so hard to find good natural hair care products for men!
My husband put a small amount in his hair while it was still wet from the shower and spread it throughout his head while styling as usual. Lo and behold, his hair looked great! It felt a little bit like “helmet hair,” but it didn’t look that way at all.
And what’s more, it does wonders for styling my son’s curly hair! The one time I wanted it to look good for family pictures, I put this on the areas of his head that tend to frizz up while it was still wet, and it came out beautiful!
He had perfect tousled curls with zero frizz and minimal effort, which was a huge win as a toddler mom!
I’m glad that everybody in my house can use this texturizing cream because it’s going to take forever for me to go through this stuff! Innersense styling products are definitely worth the investment because they will last you a very long time.

I Create Hold Styling Gel Review
If you’re a curly girl, listen up!
This styling gel is the ultimate secret weapon for amazing post-shower curls. I know that because several of my curly friends use and love this stuff.
Just apply it to sections of wet hair before diffusing and styling like normal. This will keep your curls looking amazing all day!
Even if you don’t have curly hair, I Create Hold is amazing for styling your hair in a way it normally doesn’t hold for very long. In my case, I put this in my wet hair before curling, and it stays perfect for well over 24 hours!
My favorite way to use it is to put it in my wet hair at night and then tying some heatless curls into my hair using the bathrobe belt trick (look it up, its life-changing!). When I wake up, my curls feel so much more smooth and defined!
Not to mention they last well into my second day hair. The styling is seriously so cute!

Detox Hair Mask Review
I got this as a gift for Christmas last year and I absolutely love it! My scalp always feels refreshed after I use this detox hair mask.
This clay-based mask is meant to clarify your scalp of any buildup from regular styling. So it’s not something I’d recommend you use for every shower.
Realistically, you should be using it about once a week if you style regularly. Or if you’re looking to give your scalp some TLC!
Since I rarely style my hair anymore (that’s mom life for you), I don’t use this hair treatment very often, but I get so excited when I do!
The smell is slightly minty, but very subdued. And I will say that it took a bit more product than I thought to cover my entire scalp. That’s why I use it very sparingly.
But the days I do use it, my hair feels incredible! And I can even go longer in-between washes, which is huge in my book!

Sweet Spirit Leave-In Conditioner Review
Last but certainly not least, one of my all-time favorite leave-in conditioners!
With my hair type being on the drier side, a leave-in conditioner can be a life-saver. And this one does the trick every single time for me.
The smell is very pleasant and not overpowering at all. I wish I could describe it, but it smells like a nice salon-quality product.
It sprays very evenly into my hand, and the texture feels just like regular conditioner, but it doesn’t weigh down my fine hair at all!
I prefer to spray it in my hand and work it into small sections of my wet hair because I feel like it gives me more control. But it’s totally up to you and how you like to style your hair!

Innersense Also Has Great Products for Hair Loss!
If you or someone you know has thinning or delicate hair, Innersense has great options. Their products really do look at hair from a healing perspective inside and out, and it shows.
The Harmonic Healing Oil works as a great hair loss or thinning hair treatment by nourishing the scalp and strengthening the hair strand.
This luxurious oil has ingredients like evening primrose and macadamia nut oil, which are packed with vitamins and nutrients your hair and skin need to be their best.
What’s better than a weekly scalp massage? You can use this hair oil to work into your scalp and leave on for a minimum of 20 minutes before washing it out in the shower, much like my DIY hair oil.
Innersense’s styling products also work very well for thinning hair to give it more volume. The Volumizing Foam I mentioned earlier can be applied to dry hair without heat for a great boost on second day hair.
And you can’t forget the Hair Love Prep Spray to give your hair more body!

Is Innersense Sold in Stores?
Yes, absolutely! If buying online isn’t your thing, Innersense is also sold in stores!
The easiest location to find Innersense is Ulta. I usually find a couple different shampoos and one or two of their styling products, but it depends on the location.
Because Innersense is considered a bit of a high-end hair styling company, you can find them in green beauty boutiques and hair salons all over the U.S.
This might take a bit of searching on your part, but if you find a salon that specializes in clean hair care products, never let them go! It’s so freeing to be able to walk into a beauty salon full of safe products.
Do some Googling in your city and see what comes up. Just where I live in Denver, I’ve found two different clean beauty stores that sell Innersense, as well as a few beauty salons.
Before You Go! (How My Hair Has Changed)
My personal favorite thing about trying Innersense is that I’ve experienced some unexpected hair growth! My hair is very fine and thin, and it usually reaches a length just past my shoulders where it doesn’t look too good anymore.
But since I’ve been using Innersense, my hair has grown much faster and thicker than ever before! I’m enjoying having mid-length hair for the first time in, well, ever.
I’m about due for a trim of my dead ends, but I’m curious to see how long I can get my hair now.
Trust me when I say Innersense it totally worth trying! You might discover new things you like about your hair you never thought you would.
