About Osea Malibu

Osea Malibu has very sweet, simple roots. The company is one of the original clean and vegan skincare lines, established back in 1996, in Malibu, California, by Jenefer Palmer.

But the story starts way before that, with her great-grandmother, Elsa Reushchle.

Legend has it Elsa tore several tendons in her leg. One night, she dreamt that she was healed by swimming in the ocean. So, she swam the Long Island Sound daily, and after a few weeks, she was healed!

Elsa contributed her recovery to the minerals found in seaweed and saltwater. 🌊 The story intrigued Jenefer, who created her first Osea product literally in her kitchen sink, back in the early ‘80s. She spent ten years perfecting her formula, before releasing it to the public.

It is now a family-run business, with 29 amazing products in its skincare line. The company dedicates itself to cruelty-free, environmentally friendly, clean skincare.

The entire brand is inspired by the ocean and its healing powers. Osea stands for Ocean, Sun, Earth, and Atmosphere. How cool is that? 🤯

Is Osea a Luxury Brand?

Define luxury! 🫰 To some, Osea would definitely be a luxury brand. And to others, Osea would be a staple that they cannot do without!

Osea is expensive. And many celebrities use it.  In fact, it seems to have a cult-like following. If that equals luxury to you, then yes, Osea is a luxury brand.

But, if healthy, glowing skin is a must, then Osea might be a staple in your house! Their technologically advanced formula, together with the vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids derived from the earth and the sea, restores skin to its optimal health and beauty.

Osea strives to give all skin types a spa-like experience, wrapped up in a lush little frosted glass bottle.

I’ve never been one to splurge on skin care. 💸 But Osea is truly one of the few brands out there where you actually get what you pay for. I’ve never tried a product of theirs and not fallen in love with it!

I’m sure there are many more; they probably just haven’t gone public!

Is Osea Malibu Skin Care Worth the Money?

Whether Osea Skincare is worth the money is ultimately up to you. But I can say that they deliver an amazing, high-quality product.

Plus, they offer smaller travel sizes for some of their products, which is perfect for sampling. That way, you can try the product out, before shelling out your hard-earned cash!

What’s inside Osea Malibu Skin Care?

Osea is made from nutrient-rich organic seaweed extracts that help soothe and heal the skin. They also have amazing anti-aging benefits.

  • Undaria Pinnatifida – brown algae, rich in minerals, like potassium, calcium, iodine, iron, and sodium. They are also full of B vitamins and aid healing, improve skin hydration, and promote a plump, youthful, healthy glow.✨
  • Gigartina Skottsbergii – red marine algae that make an excellent moisturizer and protect the skin from dry climates, air pollution, and wind. They also hydrate the skin and help reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Macrocystis Pyrifera – the largest of all algae, Macrocystis Pyrifera helps improve the skin’s texture and tone, helps reduce blemishes and surface redness, and gets rid of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Mineral peptides – these are the building blocks of protein and are easily absorbed into the deep layers of the skin, to reduce elasticity and wrinkles.
  • Dipalmitoyl hydroxyproline – Dipalmitoyl hydroxyproline is an oil-soluble version of hydroxyproline, which is the amino acids that make up collagen.  It is absorbed into the skin and promotes collagen production, which gives you stronger, firmer skin that is less susceptible to fine lines and wrinkles.

Aside from organic seaweed, some Osea Malibu products contain coconut oil, orange oil, avocado oil, lime oil, jojoba oil, tea tree oil, thyme essential oils, aloe vera, shea butter, and a large dose of Vitamin C.

Vitamin C is one of the best anti-aging ingredients!  It is an antioxidant that protects your skin from free radicals, which cause premature wrinkles and fine lines. 💁

Vitamin C also reduces dark spots, evens out your skin tone, and makes your skin look radiant and healthy.

Does Osea Serum Work?

The Osea Hyaluronic Sea Serum was the first product from Osea I ever tried, and it was also the first serum I ever bought! And I was not disappointed.

This is one of Osea’s top-selling products, and I can see why. It really does make your skin feel plump and moisturized.

Based on a third-party clinical study, Osea Hyaluronic Sea Serum has been clinically proven to:

  • instantly increase hydration
  • strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier
  • deliver a lifted and firmer look
  • fill the look of wrinkles
  • minimize the appearance of all lines

What Does Osea Malibu Smell Like?

Osea products use natural fragrances from a blend of aromatic compounds and essential oils.

Each product has its own individual scent based on the ingredients, but everything has a sort of mineral smell to it. As if it’s all made from minerals found in salty seawater. Which it should be!

Is Osea Malibu Cruelty-Free?

Yes, Osea skincare products are cruelty-free and Leaping Bunny Certified.  They are free of all animal testing.

Where Can I Buy Osea Malibu Skin Care Products?

Although there are many places you can buy Osea Malibu Skin Care products, I’d personally recommend you buy Osea products directly from their website, because of their return policy.  But you can also buy them in person at Ulta or on Amazon.

What is the Osea Malibu Return Policy?

If you aren’t completely satisfied, you can return it within 30 days for a full refund or credit (minus shipping costs) if you’ve only used 30% of the product. If you used more than that, you will not receive a refund.

Only products bought directly from the Osea website will be refunded. So it’s always a good idea to buy directly from their website if you’re unsure you’ll like something!

Top 7 Osea Malibu Skin Care Products

Now that I’ve answered all your questions, it’s time to take a look at the products themselves!!

Hyaluronic Sea Serum Review

This little moisture magnet is like Botox in a bottle!

Hyaluronic acid is produced naturally by your body. It helps your skin to retain water, which in turn makes it more flexible, stretchy, and less wrinkly. Hyaluronic acid also helps heal wounds and stretch marks faster.

The Hyaluronic Sea Serum feels like a bouncy water gel, and it’s dense, so you only need one drop a week.

The best way I can describe it is my face feels like I just took off a nice face mask. It feels clean and mildly hydrated and thriving.

I’d even recommend the Hyaluronic Sea Serum as a moisturizing treatment to people who don’t like to put lotion on their face! My mom absolutely detests putting lotion on her face, but this hyaluronic acid serum makes her feel moisturized and happy.

Osea has recently reformulated the Sea Serum with snow mushroom to make your skin feel even more smooth and moisturized. I just bought the new formulation and I love it! I can’t notice a huge difference per se, but it always makes my skin feel luxurious.

hyaluronic sea serum
My old and new bottles

It’s definitely on the pricey side but worth every penny! My first bottle lasted me a good year to year and a half, so it’s more of a long-haul investment.

Cost:  $88 for 1 oz.

Undaria Algae Body Oil Review

I really want to buy a bigger bottle of this stuff! Luckily, Osea listened to their customers, and they carry this Undaria Algae Body Oil in multiple sizes.

I love that this body oil absorbs quickly and doesn’t make me feel like an oil slick for the entire day. It works great for moisturizing my legs during the summertime. You don’t even need a body balm or body lotion; this stuff really hydrates your dry skin!

And it smells amazing! You can literally smell the minerals and the seaweed, but I promise there’s a musky luxurious undertone. It’s the perfect combination of natural and pleasant.

It firms the skin, to give you a more sculpted look, and it reduces the appearance of stretch marks and sagging skin.  It’s clinically proven to instantly improve skin elasticity and deliver deep moisture.

Cost:  $84 for 9.6 oz.

body oil and body scrub

Salts of the Earth Body Scrub Review

I love how gentle this body scrub is! I’m used to the level of exfoliation I get from my homemade sugar scrubs, but this did the job just fine.

The Salt of the Earth Body Scrub leaves behind a white film on your skin that rinses off very easily. And don’t worry about the moisture! It leaves my skin feeling satiated without the need for lotion after.

As for the scent, it doesn’t have any! I mean, you can smell the minerals in the salt, but it dissipates really fast. You can take that as a good or bad thing depending on your preferences.

Cost:  $48 for 12 oz.

Atmosphere Protection Cream Review

If you’re looking for the perfect daytime moisturizer, this facial lotion is your best bet! It’s perfect for combination skin, oily or acne prone skin, and sensitive skin.

I love to apply the Atmosphere Protection Cream on days when I’m not wearing foundation.

This is also a great lotion for winter because it creates a nice barrier on my face. It’s not too heavy that it feels like a burden on my skin. It protects against extreme and dry climates, air pollution, sun, and wind.

Many people wear the Atmosphere Protection Cream as a makeup primer, but because I have oily skin, I like to do something different so that my foundation will last all day. Scroll down to see my absolute favorite lotion I like to use under makeup!

Cost:  $54 for 2 oz.

Blemish Balm Review

This blemish balm is the ultimate moisturizer for oily skin! It works great to calm and clarify blemish-prone skin. It’s the first product I’ve come across that actually gets my oil slick of a face under control.

But people with dry skin and combination skin love it as well!

I love to put this under foundation because it actually helps control oil production throughout the day. When I apply it, my skin feels moisturized yet clean and firm. Maybe it’s just what normal skin actually feels like? 🤷

Regardless, when I know I’m going to be wearing foundation all day, the Blemish Balm is what I find myself reaching for. I also love to apply it on days when I feel some breakouts coming on.

The smell is slightly invigorating but it doesn’t bug me at all. And the little glass bottle it comes in will last you forever. Seriously, I’ve had mine for about a year now and I’m only halfway done!

non-toxic moisturizer

Advanced Protection Cream Review

The Advanced Protection Cream has to be one of the most incredible yet expensive things I’ve ever put on my face! It’s Osea’s most nourishing concoction and it’s really something else.

I personally have never bought a full tub of this stuff. But I’ve tried it plenty of times in sample form. I love that Osea gives out tons of samples with their orders!

If you’re looking for a high-end anti-aging cream that will bring your skin back to life, this. is. it! 🫡 I used a sample for a week during the frigid winter here in Colorado and my skin stayed tucked in nice and cozy the entire time.

I love love love the heavy moisture this gives! But it doesn’t overdo it by any means. I wish I could speak to the long-term use of this product, but I do a little happy dance whenever I get a sample!

Cost:  $108 for 1.9 oz.

Ocean Cleanser Review

The Ocean Cleanser is amazing at cleaning your face without stripping it! And the mineral peptides infused into the ocean cleanser are no joke. I feel like I’m getting a spa treatment every time I use this.

To me, the Osea Ocean Cleanser has a light citrus scent that wakes me up and makes me feel good. And my face feels nice and moisturized afterward, which is pretty hard for a cleanser to do!

It is a creamy gel, good for all face types, including sensitive skin. It doesn’t foam up a lot, but it does gently exfoliate. You can even use it as a shaving gel!

Cost:  $48 for 5 oz.

Final Thoughts on Osea Malibu Products

And there you have it! My totally honest Osea review. All in all, despite the hefty price tag, I’d say these products are definitely worth trying!

If you have a hard time parting with that much cash (totally understand!) then I’d recommend trying the travel sizes. Their samples are a decent size too!

If you can only choose one product for your skin care routine, I’d recommend the Osea Blemish Balm or the Osea Atmosphere Protection Cream. They are A-Mazing! And more economically priced.

But if you are looking to spend a little more, definitely give the Hyaluronic Sea Serum a try!  You won’t regret it!
