My Hair Growth Journey Before Vegamour
I have very fine hair, and I don’t have a lot of it. And if you’ve been here a while, you know that my hair was a huge reason Essential Moves to Wellness started at all!
When I first started college, I was obsessed with growing my hair past my shoulders. I remember it bugging me that I typically couldn’t grow my hair long AND have it look good because it was so fine.
After a few searches, I discovered the world of nontoxic hair care, and the rest is history! After detoxing my shower of all products with questionable ingredients, my hair grew over six inches in just four months!
With all that said, just keep in mind that I’d already discovered the secret to hair growth success before Vegamour sent me these products to try.
Vegamour GRO Hair Serum Review and Thoughts
Pros:
- My hair felt thicker than ever
- My hair grew much faster
- No irritation from the product
Cons:
- Made my hair look greasy
- Couldn’t apply it every day
I really wanted to like this serum as much as the other reviews I’ve found. But I wasn’t able to due to my hair type.
The way the GRO Hair serum works is that you apply it to your scalp every day. Just think of it like your daily serum that you apply to your face.
I read several reviews that said the serum gave their hair more volume or even made them go longer in between washes. Sadly, this was not the case for me and my fine hair.
Because my hair is so thin, even the tiniest bit of grease shows up on me very easily. It’s no fun because I can’t go very long in between washes, no matter how hard I’ve tried in the past.
People with normal hair can get away with having some grease and make it work for their style. Me? Not so much.
If a small amount of grease shows up on my hair, imagine this serum showing up even worse. My scalp may have properly absorbed the serum, but it lingered at my roots and made it look like I hadn’t showered in days.
I wasn’t able to apply the serum every day like it suggests for best results. If I wasn’t leaving the house on a particular day, then I applied it and tied my hair back. But on days I left the house and wanted to look cute, I had to shower and go without it.
I also want to note that this is different from the Gro+ Advanced Hair Serum. It’s a bit more potent and something I like to recommend to men looking to regrow their hair after balding!
Results—Before and After Using the GRO Serum
With all that in mind, here are some before and after photos from when I started using the serum to the time of writing this, which is a few months later.

As you can see, there’s not a whole lot of difference. My hair does seem fuller, which is fantastic.
I know for a fact that my hair seems fuller, because I was able to grow it out to new lengths without it looking horrible. If you have fine hair, you know what I mean!
Have you ever had your hair grow out to a length where it stops looking good? Based on your hair type and texture, wearing your hair long can make it look even thinner.
That’s been the case for me for the longest time. I couldn’t grow my hair much further past my shoulders without it looking thinner than it already is. But the GRO Serum made my hair thick enough that I was able to grow it a good four inches past my shoulders!
The bottom line: If you have fine hair, you might not like this as much as other people with normal hair. You may not be able to apply it every day, but hey, at least it will last longer!
If you don’t have fine hair, I’m sure this product will work great for you. Especially if you’re looking to find a way to accelerate hair growth.
Vegamour Scalp Detoxifying Serum Review and Thoughts
Pros:
- Super convenient
- Made me go longer between washes
Cons:
- None! Loved it!
I love a good scalp detox! Mostly because that means I can maybe go another day in between washes. So I was thrilled to give this product a try.
All you need to do is apply this to your scalp and leave on for about five minutes or so before you shower. I love the convenience of this product because I would just apply it before I got ready to jump in the shower.
Then you wash it out with your shampoo and conditioner and go about your routine like normal. Easy peasy! The convenience of it was super nice, instead of doing a more intensive hair mask, which can be time-consuming.
But did it work? For someone whose scalp gets greasy pretty fast, I definitely noticed a difference! It certainly helped me go longer in-between washes, which is always welcome in my book.
While there are other scalp detoxing methods I’ve tried, like this Innersense scalp scrub, this serum wins the time-saving award hands-down. I loved that I could quickly apply it to my scalp before getting ready for my shower, whereas other products involve adding another step to your shower routine.

Vegamour FAQ’s
I’ve compiled answers to all the questions I’ve received about Vegamour, ranging from upkeep of my results to the company in general.
If you don’t see your question, leave a comment below! I’m happy to help 🙂
Does Vegamour Have Any Side Effects?
From what I can tell, no! I didn’t experience any adverse side effects from using Vegamour.
However, I did read some feedback where women claimed that they ended up losing even more hair after using the product. But it seems like a very rare reaction that I would take with a grain of salt.
As with any new beauty product you use, always test a small amount of it on the inside of your wrist to see if you have any immediate reactions. If you feel any irritation, stop using the product immediately.
I should also add in the typical disclaimer that if you don’t know if a product is good for you, especially if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or on any other medications, always check with your doctor first. This serum is designed to provide serious results, so it wouldn’t hurt to see how you react first.
Is Rogaine or Vegamour Better?
In terms of ingredient safety and effectiveness, Vegamour serum is way better, hands-down!
Vegamour is by far one of the best hair growth products on the market, and the overall safety of the product is a huge plus.
According to the Mayo Clinic, Rogaine, or minoxidil, has a list of side effects that includes fluid retention, scalp irritation, fast or irregular heartbeat, dizziness and blurred vision, just to name a few!
Although these side effects are rare, Vegamour’s side effects are almost non-existent. And it’s just as effective!
I would avoid Rogaine if you can help it, with Vegamour being my top pick. And you want to know a secret? Rosemary has been proven to be just as effective as Rogaine!
If you’re looking to grow your hair and save some money, you must try my daily rosemary hair spray! It’s perfect for achieving new hair growth naturally.
What Happens When You Stop Using Vegamour?
Unfortunately, this is a product that you have to keep subscribing to if you want to see consistent results. You can’t erase any new hair growth, of course, but thickness and health of hair has been known to fade away.
I’ve read a few customer reviews that their hair didn’t feel as thick or luxurious once their supply ran out and they needed to buy more. And I can confirm this as well.
But it makes sense; if you stop using something that has a certain effect on you, those effects are going to go away. If you want some new hair growth, this should still do the trick for you just fine.
Want my two cents so you don’t have to get a subscription? Buy a few bottles of the Gro Hair Serum and when you’re on your last one, get ready to replace it with natural, homemade hair growth products when they run out.
This can be either my hair growth oil, or my homemade rosemary hair spray that’s been proven to be just as effective.
Do Vegamour Products Really Work?
The answer is a whopping yes! But with its own drawbacks. Like I said, if you have very fine hair that shows grease easily, this may not be the product for you.
I’m more of a fan of products meant for hair growth that you use as a temporary treatment. As in something you apply to your scalp, wait a bit, then wash it out in the shower.
I also think that a hair growth treatment shouldn’t be something that you have to subscribe to for the rest of your life. If you want your hair to be thick and healthy-looking using Vegamour, then it seems like you have to use their product as long as possible.
That’s why they have a subscription service with their serum. It’s something that you have to keep on buying, like your shampoo.
There are plenty more options for hair growth that don’t involve subscribing to a serum that, let’s face it, is more on the pricey side. I used plenty of DIY hair growth serums before I was approached by Vegamour.
I think that regular homemade hair treatments and switching to nontoxic hair care products will give you the exact same results. Plus they’re longer lasting!
But if you’re looking for an intensive hair restoration product that will save you a ton of time in the morning, then Vegamour will certainly do the trick!
Is Vegamour Legitimate?
Of course! Vegamour is a reputable and trusted hair care company that was founded by vegans who were passionate about helping others achieve healthy, beautiful hair.
Their products are made with natural ingredients like essential oils, botanicals, and vitamins, so you can be confident that they’re safe to use on your hair and scalp. Not to mention there’s tons of positive reviews!
Whether you’re dealing with thinning hair or hair loss, Vegamour is a great option to bring your hair back to life. As someone with very fine hair, not having thick, healthy locks can certainly do a number to one’s confidence!
Another thing I love about Vegamour is that all products are vegan, paraben-free, and cruelty-free. The main focus of Vegamour’s message leans more towards veganism and anti-animal cruelty.
If you’re looking for a high-end hair care brand that treats animals and your body with kindness, this is especially for you! The ingredients in their products are pretty decent as well.

Is Vegamour a Clean Brand?
Yes and no. This is a loaded question because the definition of “clean” isn’t regulated in the cosmetics industry.
As a result, it’s really up to you on whether or not you think Vegamour uses clean ingredients. I don’t think there’s any one definition of clean beauty. Instead, it’s more of a spectrum.
As a clean beauty blogger, I tend to fall more on the strict end of the spectrum when it comes to putting substances on my body. And based on my ingredient research, I would give Vegamour a C+ when it comes to the ingredients they use.
For example, I noticed that a few of their products contain phenoxyethanol. This ingredient is still being researched, but it’s coming to light that this preservative causes skin irritation, as well as hormonal disruption.
I also found propane in their hairspray, which is a huge no-no in my book. But it’s a continuous spray aerosol can, so I wasn’t surprised. I go into detail why in my natural hairspray post.
Is Vegamour a truly clean brand? Sort of. Are they better than most hair care brands in terms of ingredients? Heck yes.
Plus, if owning products that are cruelty-free are more what you care about, then you’re good to go!
Should You Be Concerned About Vegamour’s Lawsuit?
When I was doing research for this Vegamour review, I found some info about a lawsuit that hit the company last year. And I love to be thorough with my reviews of a company!
Because of this, I felt like I had to address it here. The good news: The lawsuit has nothing to do with Vegamour’s products or ingredients. The bad news: It has to do with accessibility.
What I mean by this is a woman named Barbara Blejewski filed a complaint in Connecticut’s federal court saying that the website was not accessible. A few key features of the site made it hard for the visually-impaired to navigate it.
You can find the full details of the complaint here, but the key complaints include a dialog box being nonexistent, as well as a 15% off coupon. The one-time purchase option was also not there for screen reader users.
The bottom line is that Vegamour’s website was deemed hard to use for people with disabilities, which unfortunately is all too common these days. But there’s nothing to worry about now, because the case was settled peacefully without any harsh monetary damages for either side.
Now that we have Vegaour’s values and past out of the way, let’s move on to what you’re really here for. The GRO Hair Serum review! But first, I want to give you just a little bit of context on how I saw hair growth before receiving these products.
Before you go!
I’ve got you covered for all things hair growth! I achieved fantastic results just by changing my lifestyle a bit and using some hair growth oil.
